The mindful singer

„To bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.“ - Buddha

In German, they specifically call becoming a singer, a „Berufung“, literally a „calling“. Usually a „calling“ is a term reserved for spiritual professions, those in the military or for those who do a lot of charitable, public, or social work. For me, I heard my call to become a singer as a teenager. I knew I couldn’t live without music or singing, but only later did I realize that it wasn’t just performing that I loved, but teaching people to find their voices. I realized it was important for people to sing for themselves and others in order to find their own creativity, inner strength or to even give strength to others.

Stopping the Drama to Gear Down.

In many ways, finding the right way to sing is like the Buddhist philosophy of bringing happiness to others. By becoming more disciplined in our mindfulness of our thoughts and our physical actions, can we truly gain wisdom of ourselves and our voice to achieve our goals. Although singing is something highly emotional, stepping back from our emotions and natural impulsiveness during training can lead to a more effective and reliable way of training our bodies to sing. Save the drama for later and get woke!
